Vegueta

Vegueta, the historic district where the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was founded in 1478. Its traditional houses, narrow streets, and small chapels preserve the atmosphere of the city's early days and the beginning of the Spanish presence in the Canary Islands.

Very close to this place is the Chapel of San Antonio Abad, linked to the beginnings of Atlantic exploration. Tradition says that Christopher Columbus prayed here before continuing his journey to the New World, connecting this neighborhood with one of the most important moments in history.
